The beautiful Oncidium x miltonia bloomed for me once...and went away forever!  Long enough for me to capture the first blossom in a mixed media technique I favor: India ink washes to build form, watercolor to capture local color shifts and topped with colored pencil detailing.  The negative space is gold watercolor paint...trying to find "gold" that repros well...bling is always better in person!

  1. Hi Kathie, I signed up to receive email notifications for your blog. I love what you're doing. The gold background is really fun. In my Newport Art Museum colored pencil class last week, I had them experiment on mylar. Some liked it but most were unsure. You do wonderful work with this surface.

  2. Thank you, Kendra! I normally gild backgrounds with 23K gold leaf but wanted to try gold paint to compare how they reproduce. Are you enjoying teaching?
